Flood Damage Information
Are you a victim of the recent floods in Georgia?
Do you need to replace items in your kitchen or bathroom?
Please make sure that you take into consideration the following when talking with your insurance company:
It is very hard to "match" cabinetry as all cabinets (even white ones) turn color over time making it virtually impossible to make a perfect match. In order to prevent a "checkerboard" of color, make sure that you get coverage to have all of the cabinets in the room replaced.
It is very hard to save countertops as they usually get damaged in the demolition process when removing cabinets - your coverage should include new countertops, too.
If the tops need replacing, take into consideration the tile backsplash and paint that may have to be replaced if damaged when removing those countertops.
Make sure that all of the molding is replaced with new molding as wood swells when wet and you do not want the same molding that sat in water to be put back. Any molding that is replaced needs to blend into connecting areas.
It is strongly recommended to have a mold company to come in prior to installing new cabinetry to check the walls to ensure that you won’t have issues in the future.
If your hardwood floors got wet they would, of course, need to be replaced. Keep in mind that any connecting rooms may need to be replaced too in order to keep uniformity.
If you think that your appliances were spared damage and don't need to be replaced, have a reputable appliance company come inspect your appliances prior to cabinet and top installation. They could detect if there was any damage to the wiring to prevent future problems.
